With the chemical formula NH4VO3, ammonium metavanadate is white to light yellow crystalline powder, slightly soluble in cold water, hot ethanol and ether, soluble in hot water and dilute ammonia water. It’s commonly used as a catalyst, drier, mordant, etc., and can also be used to prepare vanadium pentoxide. It is also widely used as a glaze in the ceramic industry. Additionally, it’s also used for paints, ink drying, microscopic staining, tile coloring, etc.

Ammonium vanadate can be toxic. Using and storing it need be to be cautious. The dust can irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. It can pollute the environment and water if not processed properly. Ammonium metavanadate needs to be stored in a cool and ventilated environment.
